ICA San Francisco's Meantime program: She Bends

Join us in person for ICA San Francisco's "Meantime program": She Bends.

ICA SF's three-month program, "Meantime", takes place mid-construction within the 901 Minnesota building in advance of our fall 2022 opening.

She Bends will be exploring neon art and its makers through live glass bending demonstrations, film screenings, talks, and a small exhibit.

Saturday, Feb 12
5-8 pm -- Films on view: "Las Vegas Bender", "Neos", exhibit on view, and live neon bending demos + Q&As
6-6:30 pm -- Artist Talk: Artist Talk: Jude Abu Zaineh & Meryl Pataky

Sunday, Feb 13
3-6 pm - Films on view: "Las Vegas Bender", "Neos", exhibit on view, and live neon bending demos + Q&As

Talk:
She Bends will be in conversation with artist-in-residence Jude Abu Zaineh and artist & teacher Meryl Pataky. The discussion will cover the works exhibited and created in the residency and consider what it means to be changing the legacy of neon and how it is passed on and taught.

"Las Vegas Bender" featuring Leticia Maldonado
Las Vegas Bender is a documentary short film by Danny Corey, featuring She Bend's artist, Leticia 'Tiza' Maldonado and executive produced by David Sadofsky, with an original score written, produced and performed by Bryan Curt Kostors.
"Neos" by Jess Krishelle
Neos is a meditative short that explores the false dichotomy of art and science, the history of noble gases, the craft of Neon glass blowing and the future of the medium through intimate studio vignettes of people in neon.

COVID-19 Policy
- N95, KN95, or surgical masks are required and must be worn at all times. (Surgical masks are available onsite)
- All visitors are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test (within 24 hrs) to enter.
- Please note refreshments will not be served.
- We will be monitoring capacity in the gallery space (50 people max at a time)
- We are continuing to monitor and adhere to the evolving Covid-19 guidelines in the city of San Francisco. We are committed to keeping our staff, exhibitors, and visitors safe. We look forward to celebrating the ICA SF with you safely this coming year!

About the Artist
She Bends (@shebends) is an organization dedicated to accessibility in neon. They support a network of women and gender-expansive artists who are bending their own neon and pushing the boundaries of their medium beyond the confines of commercial signage. She Bends works to build a more equitable future for neon through public education, preservation, and programs that foster diversity and sustainability.

About the Program
The ICA San Francisco presents Meantime, a series of takeovers and pop-ups occurring during renovations at 901 Minnesota Street, between January and April, in advance of our fall 2022 opening.
In the spirit of reciprocity and collaboration, our goal is to build relationships with a variety of communities in the Bay Area in hopes of fostering lasting partnerships.

About the ICA SF
Located in the Dogpatch district of San Francisco, the ICA San Francisco prioritizes voices and viewpoints that have been ignored or underrepresented in the art world. The ICA SF enables artists to push boundaries, experiment, and expand their practices by providing them with the time, funds, support, and space to actualize their work.
