Admission Cost: $15
I Am An American: The Nisei Soldier Experience is a powerful, 1,500-square-foot traveling exhibition, recounting the storied history of American soldiers of Japanese ancestry who demonstrated their loyalty through military service during World War II, amid the racial tension that followed Japan's attacks on Pearl Harbor.
Visitors will witness dozens of firsthand accounts, historical photos and rarely displayed artifacts that present the extraordinary courage and sacrifices of Nisei Soldiers, including those who comprised the most decorated unit in U.S. military history for its size and duration of service.
The intrepid service of Nisei Soldiers will be set against the backdrop of fear and racial tension that inspired thousands to volunteer from Hawaii and drove the U.S. government to remove 120,000 Japanese Americans and those of Japanese descent to ten Wartime Relocation Authority (WRA) Incarceration Camps during the war.
I Am An American is hosted in San Francisco by the National Japanese American Historical Society with the Presidio Trust. The exhibit is presented by the National Veterans Network (NVN) with the National Museum of the United States Army and supported by The Army Historical Foundation.
