How To Get Grants, Residencies & Shows

This three-hour workshop is designed for artists, writers and other creative professionals who seek time and money to pursue their projects.  Attendees will learn how to:

Search for opportunities;
Identify the documents you need to apply for grants, residencies & shows;
Write a compelling application;
Develop a realistic budget for projects
Tackle rejection with strategies to keep a winning mindset;
Celebrate the wins and use them to garner other opportunities.

Hand-outs, including a resource list, will be provided to everyone!
Cheryl Patrice Derricotte is a visual artist who works primarily with glass. Originally from Washington, DC, she lives and makes art in San Francisco and Oakland.  She holds the Master of Fine Arts, (MFA), from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) (2015), a Master of Regional Planning (MRP) from the College of Architecture, Art and Planning, Cornell University (1989) and a BA in Urban Affairs from Barnard College, Columbia University (1987). 
Derricotte named a Gardarev Center Fellow (2016) and received a one week residency in Maine. In 2015, she was named one of two inaugural Emerging Artists at the Museum of the African Diaspora, resulting in her first solo show. She received the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass Visionary Scholarship (2015); an Integral Teaching Fellowship from CIIS and a Creative Capacity Fund grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation (both in 2014). She was also the recipient of a D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities/ National Endowment for the Arts Artist Fellowship grant (2005), among others. Derricotte sat on the other side of the funding table as a panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council (Baltimore) and the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (Washington).  She reviewed state and local arts program grants for Maryland-based arts presenters and public art for inclusion in the new mental hospital in Washington, DC.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Please bring a photo ID. Everyone is required to sign in at the front desk of CIIS.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The closest BART/Muni Station is Civic Center. There is no parking on Mission Street from 4-6pm.
 What can I bring into the event?
Feel free to bring your laptop, tablet or journal to take notes.
