A life-long devotee of electronic and experimental music, KARL MEIER,
discovered Chicago House and Detroit Techno in the early
nineties, and the rest, as they say, is boring. Determined to prove
that dance music could be serious artform, and more than just escapist
fare, he developed a DJing style (opening for artists such as
Surgeon, Monolake, and Jeff Mills) that looks to the future while
being influenced by the music of the past, exploring the grey area
between the physical and the cerebral and focusing on dynamism,
subversion, and recontextualization.
TYREL has been a mainstay of ChicagoÂ’s underground House scene for years. He began mixing records in 1999. Soon later he landed a job at Gramaphone Records where he spent many years building his collection of dance records. He spent 2008-2011 building his Acid Test residency at Smart Bar, which is an all vinyl House / Techno party. Guests have included Derrick Carter, Traxx, Justin Long, Convextion, Dave Aju, and Tevo Howard. Since then Tyrel moved to San Francisco where he is a resident DJ for Housepitality. He has also recently started a project with Bryan Bai-ee called Secret Studio with releases on their own label called Secret Studio Records.
TASHO is a long time defender of the San Francisco dance community. As a resident of the timeless Stompy club night, Tasho (nee Tasho Nicolopulous) has been bringing jam after jam to Bay-Area clubs for over a decade.
