Hotrszowski Piano Trio in Culture, Crisis and Creativity

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Friday 25 February, 7:30pm, Lafayette Library; Sunday 27 February 5pm, 410 Sycamore Ave, Mill Valley; Tuesday 1 March 7:30pm, Berkeley City Club

The Bay Area Music Consortium (Gold Coast Chamber Players [Lafayette], Mill Valley Chamber Music Society, and Berkeley Chamber Performances) will present the Horszowski Trio in a program titled Culture, Crisis, and Creativity, to be performed three times throughout the Bay Area: on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 7:30pm at the Lafayette Library; on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 5pm at Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church in Mill Valley; and by Berkeley Chamber Performances on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 7:30pm at the Berkeley City Club. The Lafayette performance will be recorded, and ticket holders to any of these three performances will have the option to watch the Lafayette performance online beginning March 3, 2022.

This colorful program features piano trios by Bedrich Smetana, Rebecca Clarke, and Arno Babadjanian, which grapple with political struggles and personal challenges:
Rebecca Clarke composed her trio on the heels of the 1918 influenza pandemic while battling prevailing sexist attitudes and personal depression. Clarke's Piano Trio (1921) is an extraordinary work of striking originality and craft reflecting some of the most modern influences of the time including Ravel, Bloch and Debussy with its impressionist atmosphere.

Bedrich Smetana, whose work is imbued with inflections of Czech folk music, wrote his emotional op.15 trio as a response to the death of his daughter. Smetana's lone piano trio is a milestone of romanticism.

Much of Arno Babadjanian's music is rooted in Armenian folk music and folklore. Passionate and full of memorable melodies, Babadjanian's Piano Trio in F-sharp minor is considered one of his most important works.

All ticket holders will be required to provide identification and proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to remain masked at all times at each of the concert venues.

$20 to $45.
