Esteemed locally-based Pleasanton Chamber Players return to the intimate Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton. With the theme "Homage to Hungary," the dynamic program includes: Duo for Violin and Cello Op. 7 by Zoltan Kodaly; Contrasts by Bela Bartok; Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 25 by Johannes Brahms.
With the emphasis on virtuoso works, the performers for this concert are indeed top-flight soloists and chamber musicians: Elbert Tsai (violin), Meredith Kufchak (viola), Brady Anderson (cello), Joe Bonfiglio (clarinet), and Julio Elizalde (piano).
The players: Virtuoso violinist Elbert Tsai leads a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, and sought-after pedagogue. He currently serves on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory Pre-College, Center Stage Strings, and Mpulse Institute at the University of Michigan School of Music. His instrument is the outstanding "ex-Sophie Hummler" violin by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume.
Praised as a musician of "compelling artistry and power" by the Seattle Times, the gifted American pianist Julio Elizalde performs with world-renowned violinists Sarah Chang and Ray Chen, and conductors Itzhak Perlman, Teddy Abrams, and Anne Manson.
Recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award in 2010, violist Meredith Kufchak performs regularly with the San Francisco Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, New Century Chamber Orchestra, and Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra.
Popular Bay Area clarinetist Joe Bonfiglio holds music degrees from Peabody and Julliard, and is currently Adjunct Professor of Clarinet at Chabot College. Joe has performed many concerts as a soloist with bands and orchestras, in addition to movie soundtrack work.
Cellist and PCP Director Brady Anderson is a founding member of the Alden Trio, and performs chamber music extensively around the world, in addition to his teaching and coaching roles. He plays on a Francis Kuttner "Ruggeri" generously loaned by the Mao foundation.
