Creative Growth’s holiday exhibition takes its title and inspiration from a phrase by artist Chris Corr-Barberis: Attention People! Look What Amazes You Before Your Eyes. This season, we are taking a break from feeling demoralized by current events and instead paying attention to the beauty, humor, and creativity that gives us reasons to celebrate. Join Creative Growth’s community and be amazed by the joyous and witty artwork that provokes laughter and shifts our perspectives.
Your attention will be drawn to the anthropomorphized family of birds in Rosena Finister’s parable-like painting and to the strikingly contented man smoking a cigar in Ron Veasey’s bold portrait. Peter Salsman’s impressionistic painting of abandoned cars in the woods will demand a closer look and you will be amazed by the layered wonders of Juan Aguilera’s angel, bead, leaves, and lace assemblage and by Gail Lewis’ cat collage as it glitters before your eyes.
At Creative Growth’s annual Studio Sale, there will be even more art to bring amazement; the studio will be brimming with one-of-a-kind textiles, furniture, ceramics, rugs, mosaics, wood, drawings and paintings, prints, and much, much more. Treat yourself and your loved ones to artist-inspired gifts; our 2018 Creative Growth-exclusives include Barbara Mealey, Julie Swartout, and Chris Corr-Barberis wearables for the whole family, a set of glasses by Dinah Shapiro, a Latefa Noorzai shopping bag, Ricardo Gaitan socks, and greeting cards by Alice Wong.
Each purchase not only brings the joy of art to you and your loved ones, but also gives back to Creative Growth and the artists who call our Oakland-based studio home.
