Virginia duo Herb & Hanson have toured the country every year since 2006. Considering that they travel with just an acoustic guitar and a mandolin probably makes the whole thing a bit easier, at least compared to a seven-piece ska band. That doesn't mean they don't work their asses off. In fact, that relentless spirit of hard work and blood, sweat and tears is evident in their music. The songs are simple but powerful. Herb & Hanson play a hybrid of blues, folk, roots, bluegrass and a bit of Bruce Springsteen American heartland passion. When they're not singing their hearts out at full volume, the songs tend a bit toward the melancholy, which isn't a bad thing for an Americana band. (Amulya Datla)
