A Showcase of Local LGBQTA Members and Allies!
Marissa Kay and the Lunar Angels is an folk rock/alt-country band hailing from San Francisco, CA. Lead by frontwoman Marissa Kay, the band combines the classic folk, rock and country she grew up on as a child with the unique experience of living as an openly transgender woman. Her debut album, Trans Is Love, was released in November 2018. It was featured in publications such as The Bay Bridged and No Depression.
JWB is an Acoustic-Pop band from San Jose, Ca, comprised of three Bay-Area-based musicians with very different musical backgrounds: lead singer, Jake Wichman, is a singer-songwriter with a soft spot for 90s pop; Drummer and backup vocalist William Lineberry is an inventive cajon player and percussionist from a rock background; and double bassist Noa Laniakea is classically trained, composes, and works heavily in folk music of all kinds. The trio has found a way to seamlessly merge elements from all these genres into one uniquely their own, combining electric-guitar-like double bass playing with funky grooves, catchy melodies, and lyrics anyone can relate to.
Noa is a nonbinary trans* individual (they/them or she/her) who wants to use their music to connect to a wider audience and provide visibility for trans* people, while Jake and Will are staunch allies. Their music is meant to be universal, singing stories of love and loss meant to bring people together over our shared experiences. Their message is that we are all just people doing the best we can, no matter our backgrounds, so why not make music about it?
@ Little Spiral @, a.k.a. Suzanne Yada, is a piano-pop singer-songwriter who writes at the intersection of technology and heart. She mixes her indie pop, classical, blues and electronic influences with her background in poetry, media and the internet to create clever little piano pop songs for the digital age. Fans of Tori Amos, Amanda Palmer, Mary Lambert and Regina Spektor will feel right at home in the @ Little Spiral @ galaxy.
