This hands-on workshop at the Palo Alto Art Center on March 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., is designed for wheel throwers who wish to learn new techniques for enhancing and decorating the surfaces of their pots. Hsin will demonstrate how to apply a chattering texture, how to use sodium silicate to achieve a crackle texture, and how to apply roller textures to the surface of your pots. Additionally, Hsin will demonstrate throwing skills, including throwing off the hump.
Inspired by early vessel forms from the Shang and Zhou periods and pottery from the Sung Dynasty, Hsin-Chuen Lin integrates cultural influences into his work using contemporary concepts and techniques.
