Hands-on Anti-bird/glass collision workshop

at Martinez home of Nancy Salsig (Saturday, July 12, 9:00am-2:00pm)
This workshop will be held in Martinez, at the home of a Bringing Back the Natives garden tour host. Come join us in installing Feather Friendly markers to the home's sliding glass doors. When we need a break we'll tour the native plant garden and learn how it has attracted an extensive list of birds. Come meet other native plant and bird fans! We'll have fun while learning how to protect birds. Bring your own picnic lunch and drink.

It is estimated that bird/glass collisions cause up to one billion bird deaths a year in the United States alone. You may be surprised to learn that most bird/glass collisions occur at residential and low-rise buildings. Even if birds fly away after hitting a window, they likely die of internal injuries later.

The good news is bird/glass collision is a problem we can prevent
How? Just apply visible markers to the outside side of the window glass. Once the markers are in place, instead of seeing deceptive reflections of trees or clouds-and thinking they can fly "through" the glass-the bird will see the markers, recognize the glass as a solid object, and avoid it.
