Heartfelt Jazz Vocalist & Songwriter

"Depending on the song, Loren can be sweet, sly, or sultry, but she always finds the right read ... Loren’s ability to find something new in the old makes this a fun ride" -- AllAboutJazz.com, Dan Bilawsky

8pm $25 adv, $29 door

Forged in the remote beauty of an Alaskan island, Halie Loren’s gift for capturing the playfulness, vulnerability, and sensuality inherent in a classic lyric appeared early on. However, it was her talent for turning those feelings into genre-defying original songs that first won her fans. In 2000, Loren earned first place in the Austin Songwriters Contest, and in her teens won awards from the John Lennon Songwriting and Billboard World Song contests, among others.

As a vocalist, she is a jazz singer of rare sensitivity, with a deeply felt interpretive ability to bring fresh perspectives to well-traveled musical paths. Her debut jazz CD, 2008′s They Oughta Write a Song, won the JPF award for Best Vocal Jazz Album, and it became Japan’s No. 2-selling jazz recording of the year. She followed with Stages, her first live CD, about which online retailer CD Baby observed: “her respect for the past is undeniable, while her finger on the pulse of modern music gives her songs a wide appeal.” Her next album, After Dark, received special recognition for the song “Thirsty,” winning the 2011 Independent Music Awards Vox Pop poll for Best Jazz Song.

Released in Asia in late 2011, Loren’s current CD, Heart First, found favor with critics and listeners alike, winning Jazz Critique magazine’s top Golden Prize as the Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2011, while “Fly Me to the Moon,” the album’s first single, reached No. 1 on the iTunes Japan jazz chart. In its 2012 release in North America, Heart First joined the top 10-bestselling jazz CDs on Amazon U.S. and Amazon Canada, and quickly shot to the No. 1 position in jazz on iTunes Canada. Fittingly, her songs have charted internationally on both jazz and pop radio.

Success has brought Loren’s music to ever-widening audiences. In the past year, her busy touring schedule included performances to sellout crowds in Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan and South Korea. 2012 and 2013 highlights includ performances at Seattle's Jazz Alley, the Portland Jazz Festival, and an appearance at NYC's famed Birdland. In the Fall of 2013, Halie Loren will release her 6th studio album, Simply Love.
