The critically acclaimed theatre company, A Theatre Near U presents, "Guppy." Based on the true story of Jeff Eben — Star lineman of the Clovis Cougar’s football team, class president and all-around BMOC, Jeff has his entire world instantly shattered by a water-skiing accident that leaves him permanently paralyzed from, “the nipples down.” The heroic tale of how Jeff’s family, friends and entire community rallied to his aide, how he fought to survive and eventually regain his hope for a rich and fulfilling future is, perhaps, one of the most moving and inspirational stories one may ever encounter. "Guppy" is a different kind of love story. It’s about the unbeatable power of loving life.
A Theatre Near U has assembled a stellar cast for this uplifting and poignant production. Cindy Weisberg makes her ATNU debut as Guppy’s outwardly stoic, no-nonsense mother, Sandra. She has regionally performed and directed with Silicon Valley Shakespeare, The Los Altos Stage Company, The Sunnyvale Community Players, among others. Memorable roles include Fran in "Promises, Promises" and Catherine in "Pippin." Aaron Weisberg, last seen as Henry Higgins in Woodside Theatre’s, "My Fair Lady," also makes his ATNU debut as the firebrand philosopher Coach Burkhard. Among his many credits, are Harold Hill in the SJ Lyric Theatre’s production of "The Music Man," and Jeff in West Valley Light Opera’s, "Bells are Ringing." Jackson Wylder who takes on the title role Guppy, returns for his seventh A Theatre Near U production, noteworthy roles being Ralph in "Lord of the Flies" and multiple characters in, "A Beautiful Glass," the latter garnering him a Broadway World Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Currently studying theatre at Columbia University, he has appeared there as Melchior Gabor in "Spring Awakening," a young Jack Kerouac in "The Other Side," and Jimmy Jack Cassie in "Translations."
