Grooblen / Mayya

big leap collective presents
Grooblen / Mayya
plus Cardboard People, Medscool

Through winding wormholes, interplanetary contemplations of change and recovery, heartbreak and heart-mend, avant psych-cabaret group Grooblen emerges from the San Francisco space-time continuum with their sophomore album, A Wormhole Is A Freeway To The Stars. Grooblen takes you on a turbulent and at-times ethereal spaceship ride through heavy rock hitter asteroids, wavy jazz-pop nebulas, and encounters with aliens of the psychedelic-cabaret kind. https://grooblen.bandcamp.com/

Mayya is inspired by anyone who is unapologetically themselves and aspires to create a positive environment through her melodic, energetic music. Her band puts on fun-filled performances and her solo act is known to have a charming and vulnerable quality. The band has shared bills with Deerhoof, Mike Watt, Luna, Kid Congo Powers, Death Valley Girls, Tropa Magica, Tim Presley, The Avengers, Downtown Boys, Dick Stusso & Jeffrey Lewis while her solo stylings have landed her positions opening for John Doe and The Fillmore Poster Room on nights of Patti Smith and Gogol Bordello. Mayya also plays bass in Mae Powell and Mild Universe. https://mayya.bandcamp.com/album/infinite-possible-futures

Cardboard People is the Bay Area's hottest alt-indie-soul-artpop band, fronted by the powerhouse vocals of Yunoka Berry and produced by Jim Greer. The band - featuring heavy hitter drummer Genesis Valentine and bass deity Rhonda Kinard - delivers a dynamic and eclectic sound: from laid-back indie-soul to hyped-up 80's-tinged bangers and gospel-inspired tracks. With co-producer Domino from Hieroglyphics, Cardboard People brings an inclusive, conscious party vibe to the music scene, all while maintaining a semi-anonymous presence, serving as a pervading avatar for anyone who feels inspired. https://cardboardpeople.bandcamp.com/

Medscool is a rock group based out of San Francisco, started by lead singer Maria Donjacour. Maria began playing music and writing songs alongside bass player Marika Stuurman in the San Francisco DIY music scene. They play in many groups together, but Maria has found her voice as a songwriter and front woman through Medscool. Maria writes dramatic melodies supported by the funky bass lines of Marika Stuurman, the creative drum beats of Abri Crocitto, and the strong guitar melodies and tones of Jack Lillian and Autumn Carroll. Each member of the band brings their unique flavor and style to each song bringing together influences such as Cate Le Bon, Ty Segall, and Weyes Blood: https://medscool.bandcamp.com/album/raw
