GRMLN hates vowels, loves guitars. They strum some upbeat indie pop/garage rock tunes with enough musical twists and catchy melodies to hold a listener's interest in a genre prone to bad cases of the blands. Their most recent album was cut and mixed in five days, and the tunes charm with brevity and a slight roughness. After touring with Geographer last summer and opening for Surfer Blood and The French Cassettes a couple weeks ago, it's clear the band's got some good buzz going. They open here at Cafe Stritch for East Bay indie hot shots Rin Tin Tiger. (Stephen Layton)
