Jay Hill and Ryan Carrington present a joint collection of their work at New Coast Studios. Join us for the opening reception, which will be Saturday, June 8th, 6-8PM.
Jay Hill is a self-taught artist who rekindled his passion for art at the age of 50. Although Jay's had an interest in art for most of his adult life, it wasn't until watching "Exit Through the Gift Shop", which features the work of street artist Banksy, that Jay realized he could build on his experience in printing, construction, and software engineering to create work that would be uniquely his own. Combining digital manipulation, stencils, spray paint and wood, Jay Hill creates pieces that are bold and emotive.
Ryan Carrington is a sculptor and metal-worker who uses construction materials to create pieces that explore the themes of labor, class, and economics. He is particularly concerned with the plight of blue-collar workers in the United States, and uses his media to memorialize and elevate their contribution. Having worked previously in landscaping, maintenance, and construction, he brings his personal experience, thoughts and memories to the subject. Ryan currently teaches sculpture, foundry work, and mold making at San Jose State University and Santa Clara University.
