GOLD

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Gallery 2727 (see times)
This September at 2727 California, all that glitters is gold.
Berkeley's Gallery 2727 Artist Cooperative celebrates gold in all its forms, from the gleam of precious metal to the warm light of an autumn evening.
"Gold" at 2727 California is an exhibition of paintings, photographs, sculpture, and mixed media works that address what it means to be, do, make, have, and stay gold. The community is invited to a full program of workshops, talks, and performances throughout the month, beginning with an opening night party on September 6 and culminating with a curator-led tour and closing reception on September 29. All events and workshops are open to the public and free of charge, and donations will be used to compensate artists and musicians and cover the costs of workshop materials.
Don't miss this golden opportunity to support local art!
About the Gallery:
Gallery 2727 is an artist cooperative regularly exhibiting at the 2727 California Community Art Space. Member artists collaborate to show work, develop their art profession, and engage the wider community with art-making opportunities. Emphasis is on including local artists, emerging artists, and artists from underrepresented groups who have had less opportunity to show their work. The co-op is open to new members. Interested artists can learn more about the gallery and apply here: https://www.2727.today/gallery2727.

Events:
September 6, 5:30-8 pm: Opening reception celebrating the work of co-op artists. Join in making balloon portrait art to decorate the gallery and nibble on gilded treats. Enjoy live music by the Ben Slater Trio, who blend rhythms and textures from above and below, giving their listeners a diasporic route to the sound of joy!
September 7, 2-5 pm: Drop by the gallery to pose for your very own blind contour portrait courtesy of co-op artist Kelly Dunagan. These quick drawings are made with a single continuous line, yielding a quirky, original portrait in just a few minutes. Suggested donation $5 per portrait
September 8, 2-2:45 pm: Gain unique insights into the exhibition with talks by 2727 artists Maria Tuttle, Janet Brugos, and Mary Coffield.
September 13, 5:45-8 pm: Golden Hour Concert with Groupmuse featuring a surprise musical guest! Suggested minimum contribution $15.
September 14, 2-3 pm: Co-op members Kelly Dunagan, Francesca Borgatta, Lynne-Rachel Altman, and Carla Golder discuss their work in the exhibition.
September 15, 2-3 pm: Janet Brugos will give a demonstration of Suminagashi, the ancient art of Japanese marbling. This art form uses special inks which are carefully dropped into water. By using brushes in both hands and using contrasting colors you can create an original design. The experience can be quite meditative and relaxing. Once your design is ready, you retrieve it on paper which is set aside to dry. After the demonstration, viewers will be invited to try it for themselves. Suggested donation $10 - 20
September 20, 4-8 pm: Learn how to upcycle clothing with Linden JL! This workshop is an opportunity to give old clothing a new life while exploring a variety of textile skills such as hand & machine sewing and embroidery. Feel free to bring in your own clothing or choose from available clothing. No prior skills or materials necessary. Suggested donation $10 - 20
September 21, 2-4 pm: "Make it Sparkle!" Try your hand at reverse glass painting with co-op member artist Lynne-Rachel Altman. Bring your own 5x7" image to trace or use one provided. Suitable for most adults and children over 7 years of age. Suggested donation $10 - 20 per household

September 27, 5:45-8 pm: 2727 Golden Hour Concert with Groupmuse, featuring a musical treat! Suggested minimum contribution $15.
September 28, 2-4 pm: Give yourself a bit of glitz at a "Hats and Crowns!" workshop, led by Francesca Borgatta. Make your own out of recycled materials (mylar, wrapping paper, textiles, lace, ribbons, artificial flowers, party favors, you name it). Lots of supplies will be on hand, or bring your own. Learn techniques for putting it all together. Be ready for the next party or parade! For adults and children. Suggested donation $10 - 20
September 29, 2-5 pm: Join the curator-led tour through the show, followed by a closing reception and a last chance to buy one of the golden works of art from Gallery 2727 artists cooperative!
