GOING SANE IN SAN FRANCISCO: Roger Silver in conversation with Joel Selvin @ the Throckmorton

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Bay Area author Roger Silver speaks with Joel Selvin, author and former pop music critic for the SF Chronicle about his newest book, Going Sane in San Francisco.

The book is a compelling and insightful expose about two brothers from a San Francisco entertainment family. One brother, Steve Silver, a gay man who marries a woman months before dying of AIDS to bury the truth about his sexuality – becomes fabulously wealthy by creating Beach Blanket Babylon, the longest running stage show in America. His brother Roger, who grew up despised by their social-climbing mother, is eventually disowned by his brother.

Roger Silver writes passionate prose, poetry and lyrics, and has written songs recorded by Journey, Carlos Santana, Eric Martin (Mr. Big), Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, and three-time Emmy Award winner Jon Close. In addition, he has written the screenplay to accompany Going Sane in San Francisco and today spends most of his time writing and learning the art of encaustic painting.

Joel Selvin is an American San Francisco-based music critic and author known for his weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle which ran from 1972 to 2009. Selvin has written books covering various aspects of pop music—including the No. 1 New York Times best-seller, “Red: My Uncensored Life In Rock” with Sammy Hagar—and has interviewed a large number of musical artists. Selvin has published articles in Rolling Stone, the Los Angeles Times, Billboard, Melody Maker and has written liner notes for dozens of recorded albums. He has appeared in documentaries about the music scene and has occasionally taken the stage himself as a rock and roll singer.

Join us on April 28th for this tell-all! Also featuring LIVE music from Silver’s Going Sane in San Francisco CD! Musicians include: Jon Close, Miles Schoen, Douglas Scott, & Tom Fitzgerald.
