Oaklandish is proud to announce a holiday meet & greet with none other than Oakland icon Goapele!
Born Goapele Mohlabane, Goapele has found herself on radio waves all around the world ever since her 2001 debut album Even Closer hit the shelves. Her smooth sounds often have a political and socially conscious bent, but what else would we expect from the daughter of a South African political activist? Goapele, whose name mean to move forward in Setswana, was a former member of the Oakland Youth Choir and was encouraged to participate in community affairs from a young age.
Having collaborated with Bay Area legends along the lines of E-40, Zion-I, The Hieroglyphics Crew and with world-renown artists Dwele and Yaasin Bey (aka Mos Def) it's easy to see why the Oaklandish crew is excited about this upcoming event!
Come join us and say hello as Goapele hangs in our downtown Oakland store Saturday December 19th from 7:30-9pm. As usual, this is an all ages event and is free of charge!
