Glimpses of a Drowned World | Ninth Annual International Video Open Call

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Aggregate Space Gallery is pleased to present this selection of video works from our annual open call for time-based media. For the ninth year in a row, we intentionally chose to forgo a themed call so that a cohesive show could be discovered in the relationships between the submissions.

For this ninth edition of our open call, the works that caught our attention address the current state of natural existential threats to the world where we all reside. The videos included in Glimpses of a Drowned World allegorically speak to the fear, distrust, and alienation of mutually experiencing this once in a millennium pandemic, whether that means being trapped beneath a surface of ice looking out at to a world beyond our grasp, falling between in the folds of the textures that envelop us, or choosing an escape to a reality built on folktales or mythology. The works featured in this year's exhibition force us to look at the world we have inherited; one that was built on a lack of care for the natural landscape, which we are burdened by, and all the while it and the life it supports are our only hope.

Featuring works by Alana Bartol, McLean Fahnestock, Omer Gal and Jacquelyn Marie Shannon, Tanja Geis, Ahmed Ozsever, Sheri Park, Allison Roberts, and Centa Schumacher.

First Friday Event: 4 February, 5-8pm (vaccinations required)
Second Saturday Artist Talk: 12 February 11am-12:30pm PST (online and RSVP vaccinations for in-person)
Gallery Hours: Saturdays 1-5 and by appointment
