The 2nd annual GLAS Animation Festival takes place March 2-5, 2017 in the historic city of Berkeley, California. We are introducing new ideas and expanding the scope of animation by bringing new voices, new talents, new themes, and a new generation of independent filmmakers and curators to the United States. We highlight fresh voices in independent animation while curating special programs of the most significant periods of animation history that serve as an inspiration for contemporary animators. Our venues include the Shattuck Cinemas, the David Brower Center, Berkeley Media Center, and the Berkeley Art Center.
At GLAS Animation Festival we have a complete competition program for best Narrative, Non-Narrative, Undergraduate, Graduate, and Commissioned short films as well as a Best Feature competition category. We feature retrospectives, special curated programs, guest curators, Q&As, behind the scene screenings and panels, animation installations and more. GLAS Animation Festival unites the animation community with the Berkeley and Bay Area community, sharing great and unique animated works from around the world.
Special guests for GLAS 2017 include Brad Bird, Masaaki Yuasa, Georges Schwizgebel, Amy Lockhart, Mathieu Labaye, Ana Rodriguez, Madeline Sharafian, Chris Robinson, Lei Lei, and more to be announced!
