Barefoot Chamber Concerts presents Bay Area favorite Gilbert Martinez, playing a concert of Rameau's harpsichord music.
Rameau, the best and most prolific of the late, decadent French composers, used an unusually rich harmonic language which changed French music forever. His zest for drama is reflected in his many operas, and in his harpsichord music, which is conspicuously daring and colorful.
Gilbert Martinez, harpsichord, is the Artistic Director of MusicSources, Center for Historically Informed Performance in Berkeley. As a harpsichordist (he is also an acclaimed conductor), he has given concerts all over North America, and in Europe. He currently resides part-time in Copenhagen.
