Proudly presenting his first solo exhibition, ‘Bayan’, features the work of accomplished photojournalist Gil Riego Jr. ‘Bayan’ is an exhibition of the places Gil has called home over his lifetime. These include Los Angeles, San Francisco, and the Philippines.
This exhibition illustrates what “bayan" (a Tagalog word for "home" or "homeland") means to people like Gil who were brought to America as children, and have been made to feel home-less and victimized by the bureaucracies of the ‘home countries’ they don’t know, and the country they call ‘home’. The photos from the Philippines appearing in this exhibition were taken just this past September, 2013. This was the first time Gil had been back to the Philippines since his infancy.
In the wake of the recent disaster, 100% of proceeds from any photos from the Philippines sold will go to Typhoon Haiyan relief. Portions of proceeds from San Francisco prints will be also be donated.
The exhibition will run March 8 through April 12, 2014.
Opening Reception: March 8, 2014
