Join San Francisco indie rock group Geographer for a live set and signing of their third full-length album, Ghost Modern (out now on Roll Call Records).
Geographer was formed in 2006 when Michael Deni, who had recently moved to San Francisco and was performing at open mic nights in area clubs, met fellow musicians Nathan Blaz and Brian Ostreicher. Geographer’s first album, Innocent Ghosts, was independently released in 2008. This debut effort garnered attention nationally as well as locally, and SPIN magazine tagged the group as an undiscovered band to watch. By 2009, Geographer had been signed by a local record label and in 2010 released the EP Animal Shapes. The band’s work continued to be received positively by critics and a growing fan base. Geographer released their second album, Myth, in 2012. They supported the album with a U.S. tour with the band Miniature Tigers. In 2013, the band toured as headliners for the first time, playing to many sold-out venues in the U.S. and Canada.
Geographer is known for a dance party atmosphere at concerts, but along with the high energy of the music are deep and textured elements and lyrics. This blend has made the group popular on the festival circuit, with appearances at SXSW, Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, First City Music Festival, Firefly Music Festival, Noise Pop, and many others.
