Our Family Coalition and Men Having Babies join to co-host a Surrogacy Seminar & Expo to provide legal, medical, and financial guidance to gay men seeking to become biological parents.
Our Family Coalition is teaming up with Men Having Babies on January 10, 2015 to present a daylong Surrogacy Conference and Expo. It’s a smart partnership: Men Having Babies spent the last 10 year guiding gay men through the complexities of having children via surrogacy and Our Families Coalition has helped Bay Area LGBTQ parents nurture and advocate for their children since 1994.
”One of the beauties of the LGBT community is the rich diversity of our families, and Our Family Coalition helps open the door to the joys of family life to people who create their families in many ways.,” said Judy Appel, the Executive Director of Our Family Coalition. “We’re so happy that the knowledgeable team at Men Having Babies joined with us for this important conference on surrogacy.” According to Ron Poole-Dayan, executive director of Men Having Babies, “Having a child via surrogacy is a complex medical, legal and social process. And it is expensive. You don’t have to go it alone…leading experts and our savvy peer advisers will offer step-by-step guidance on how to begin and survive the process of building a family via surrogacy.”
Attendees will learn from the personal experience of parents and the surrogates who gave birth to their children. They can chat with representatives from over 20 surrogacy agencies and fertility specialists.
Prospective parents can also attend small group presentations, reserve a few one-on-one consultations and learn about (and sign up for discounts through) the Gay Parenting Assistance Program, which offers free and discounted services to gay men concerned about the cost of having children via surrogacy. Finally, participants will meet the staff of Our Family Coalition and find out more about one of their many regular social and support groups for future or current LGBTQ parents.
