Gamelan in the Garden is a free showcase of Balinese performing arts held in the beautiful San Francisco Botanical Garden.
Performances will be held throughout the afternoon in different locations in the Garden, treating audiences to a wide array of dance and music styles from across Bali, featuring Gamelan Sekar Jaya's jegog and beleganjur ensembles featuring bamboo instruments, drums, cymbals, and more! There will also be plenty of time for performer-audience interaction after each show. This event is family-friendly and perfect for audience members who have never heard Balinese gamelan before. Come for your favorite ensemble, or pack a lunch and enjoy the whole day!
In the evening, the Celebration Garden will host a special ticketed performance of "Perang Undur-Undur", a spectacular 16th century dance-drama about invasion, trickery, heroism, and the restoration of balance.
Limited seating available at the venue. Bringing a blanket or a camp chair is recommended. There is an admission fee to the SF Botanical Gardens (free for SF residents) and special ticket is required for the dance-drama in the Celebration Garden.
Free with General Botanical Garden Admission; $0-$33.
