Gabriel Menotti: "Forensic Hallucinations"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Gabriel Menotti: Forensic Hallucinations

This talk examines current uses of 3D replication for the preservation, reproduction, and subversion of cultural heritage. By putting digital replicas’ forensic legitimacy into question, it seeks to advance a more nuanced understanding of the complexities and contradictions of historical representation. In particular, it will address projects that use virtual replicas to challenge cultural hegemonies and to reinscribe excluded actors back into narratives of dispossession.

Gabriel Menotti works as an independent curator and lecturer at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil. He is the author and co-editor of a number of publications dealing with image technologies. He is also one of the coordinators of the Besides the Screen research network. Currently, Menotti is a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee working on the uses of volumetric imaging for cultural heritage.
