*FUNK REVIVAL ORCHESTRA* (+pigWar)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Funk Revival Orchestra

Horn-driven harmonies and classic grooves take center stage at the Boom Boom Room on Saturday Night as Funk Revival Orchestra (F.R.O.) takes San Francisco by storm. A ten-piece ensemble featuring a full horn section, slamming rhythm section and sizzling-hot vocals, the Funk Revival Orchestra's name is self-explanatory as they breathe new life into rare cuts from the 70's- tracks that have been sampled numerous times but never fully done justice until now.

pigWar

pigWar is pure psychedelic soul.

Named after the bloodless war of 1859 in the San Juan Islands, their live shows are explosive with all-original tunes that pull from the obscure corners of Teddy Pendergrass, Led Zeppelin, The Faces, Lee Scratch Perry, Dilla, and Parliament Funkadelic. Paying homage to old soul music with a modern coat of paint consisting of dusty synthesizers and angular horn lines.

pigWar is the musical platform of Portland-based artist Teddy Presberg. The band features a rotating cast of some of Portland’s best soul singers and unleashes them with a super tight band exploding behind them.

Teddy is a sought-after producer/side-man and accomplished guitarist whose debut album, Blueprint of Soul, was picked up by the internationally renowned funk/jazz label Ropeadope Records (Medeski Martin and Wood, Charlie Hunter, DJ Logic, Snarky Puppy, etc.) and awarded “Staff Pick Top 10 album of 2007” from All About Jazz. He’s released more than 12 albums since and now collaborates on several different musical projects across the country.

Teddy’s Hard R&B and Spaced out Soul music reckons traditional 1970s soul/funk while also carves out a unique modern sound for the band. pigWar has also made a unique pact with their fans in that the lyrical content of their music can only pull from the tenants of soul and rock: sex, heartbreak, and justice.

pigWar is currently following up on the success of their first four singles (Make Love Vol I and II) with their debut full-length album. The record was cut in two days at the Monophonics studio in the Bay Area and then edited and overdubbed in Presberg’s Portland-based studio. Ian McDonald and Kelly Finnigan of the Monophonics mixed the album and Erik Wofford (Black Angels, Grupo Fantasma) mastered the album for its heavily anticipated 2016 release.
