Fundamentals of AR/VR

Dive into the exciting world of Augmented and Virtual Reality in this hands-on summer course designed for artists, designers, and creatives ready to explore immersive technology. Through guided instruction, students will learn the fundamentals of AR/VR, gain technical skills in Unity, and explore how to design interactive, 3D experiences that respond to the user. Along the way, students will experiment with tools like AR Foundation and VR development kits, and explore immersive storytelling, world-building, and experience design. No prior experience is required-just bring your curiosity and creative vision. By the end of the course, students will have completed a functional AR prototype and built a solid foundation to continue working in immersive media.

Prerequisite: None. Students must be 18+ years or older at the start of class.

Bring to first class:
- A sketchbook/pencils/preferred note taking materials.
- A smartphone (iOS 15+ or Android 12+) for testing AR content
- A USB drive or portable hard drive for saving projects.
- If students prefer to bring their own laptops, they should come to class the 1st day with Unity already installed. Instructor recommends Unity 2022.3.x as the most stable and reliable version for AR/VR projects, and can walk students through the installation if needed. See system requirements.
