The Monterey Museum of Art at MMA La Mirada presents a special concert and musical program, From Paris to Monterey: Tavernier's Bohemian World. This special musical evening at the Monterey Museum of Art–La Mirada is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Jules Tavernier: Artist and Adventurer (on view at the Museum’s Pacific Street location June 6 - October 20, 2014). French artist Jules Tavernier was a traveler, living in Paris as Impressionism emerged and poets like Verlaine and Rimbaud were making literary history.
This program will offer selections from "Songs of Travel" as well as art songs of the French Romantic era, performed by Peter Tuff, baritone, Katherine Edison, soprano, and Simona Snitkovskaya, piano accompanist. The narrative by David Gordon, author, educator, internationally known tenor, and beloved raconteur, will take us on Tavernier's journey from Paris to Monterey in the late 19th century and introduce us, through words and music, to his world. Advance tickets for the concert are $20 for Museum Members, $25 for non-members (includes admission to the Museum). $25 for all at the door. Includes admission to Jules Tavernier: Artist and Adventurer exhibition at MMA Pacific Street. Reservations are strongly recommended.
