Friday Film "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days" (Sophie Scholl: die letzten Tage)

SEE EVENT DETAILS
FRIDAY FILMS @Goethe

2018 marks the 75th Anniversary of the execution of 21-year-old German student Sophie Scholl. To commemorate the life of this young activist, Goethe-Institut San Francisco shows Marc Rothemund's Sophie Scholl - The Final Days.

PLOT:
Februar 1943: The young Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans get arrested by a leaflet action against the Nazi-dictatorship at the University of Munich. After days of interrogations from the Gestapo she has been condemned to death and killed by the Peoples Court. Sophie Scholl - The Final Days directed by Michael Rothemund is after Michael Verhoevens The White Rose and Percy Adlons Fife Final Days (both 1982) already the third modern German movie, starring the 21-year old student. The notable difference to the previous: Rothemund and his author Breinersdorfer had the chance to resort to documents, that weren´t provided back in the 80s, such as original protocols of the Gestapo interrogations, which were in DDR- archives for decades and only accessible after the political shift in 1990.
-

Director: Marc Rothemund, 116 min., 2005 Language: German with English subtitles
-

Price: FREE Admission, suggested donation: $5
