French Artist Fleur Spolidor First Open Studio in San Carlos
(San Carlos, Calif. April 5th, 2013) The 27th Annual Silicon Valley Open Studios is coming up in May. Fleur Spolidor will open her studio May 4th and 5th presenting paintings inspired by the historical parallels she draws between Paris and San Francisco.
Born and raised in Paris, France, Fleur studied in various art studios and started a PhD in art history at the University of Paris, where she went on to teach at both the university and in private schools of design.
Fleur moved to the Bay Area ten years ago and was surprised to discovered how the history of San Francisco and Paris overlapped and transcended each other! This revelation led her to compose paintings in which her French culture of the Moulin Rouge mixed with the dark history of the Barbary Coast. The 1906 Earthquake, its fire, and its consequent ruins became the perfect backdrop for portraits of her Parisian ladies. Influenced by the work of Henri Matisse, Gustav Klimt and Frida Kahlo, Fleur expressively layers her imagery with explosive color and pattern to portray her psychology narrative. Her work has been exhibited in France, Switzerland, San Francisco, and the Bay Area.
