Free Third Thursday: Show Your Look!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Kickoff SF Pride weekend with YBCA and Compton's Transgender Cultural District.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and the 53rd anniversary of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots – a defining moment for the LGBTQ community, as drag queens and trans women stood up to police violence in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. In partnership with Compton’s Transgender Cultural District, hear from the leaders about the history and origin of the district and what the next year has in store.

Show us your pride-ready outfits and finish off your looks at our makeup stations featuring Sephora products. Sephora ambassadors will provide makeup tips to help you keep your look fresh. Step into our photo booth hosted by Shot in The City Photography and be featured in our Pride-themed digital lookbook, released in August.

As part of our monthly Free Third Thursdays, enjoy specialty cocktails, Bay Area DJ’s, and access to our newest exhibition, Identity and Pride, a glimpse into the perspectives of youth ages six to eighteen exploring broad themes of identity, including gender, ethnicity, culture, community, and love. This month’s Artist to Artist conversation will feature filmmaker Nava Mau and visual artist Micah Bazant speaking about their practice and experiences as trans artists and how that has come to shape and define their work.

Schedule

5PM: Galleries free, bar open and DJ spinning in the lobby, Nava Mau’s film Waking Hour screening on loop in Screening Room, Shot in the City Photography booth open, Sephora “Finish Your Look” station open.

6:15PM: A word from the leaders of the Compton’s Trangendered Cultural District

6:30PM: Artist to Artist conversation featuring Nava Mau and Micah Bazant
