FREE Papermaking Workshop with Mary Campbell

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Join Open Windows' Fall Artist-in-Residence Mary Campbell for a morning of papermaking! We will be making paper sheets and pulp paintings from recycled paper. Prepare to get messy as we paint, shred, and blend, to create unique paper pulp.  We will make small sheets of paper using a mould and deckle, and work on a collaborative large "pulp painting". Mary will bring some molds and examples of pervious samples if anyone has interest in paper sculpting. If you'd like to take your paper home, Mary will be sending 1/2 sheets in the mail to their makers once they dry! Kids are welcome with parent supervision.
About the instructor:
Mary Campbell is an interdisciplinary artist living in San Francisco, CA. She received her BFA in Printmaking and Sculpture in 2014 from the University of Oregon. She has been awarded residencies and fellowships from a variety of art centers including the Vermont Studio Center, Prequel PDX, and Pulp & Deckle Papermaking. Her work has been shown at various galleries such as Incline Gallery, C3:initiative, and the Littman Gallery. Mary works professionally as a product designer, and in her studio at Long Time Collective in San Francisco.
Mary’s work spans media encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and video. By stealing from her observed environment, the work borrows and recreates familiar objects from her surroundings and re-contextualizes them in compositions concerned with color, form, and pattern. Drawing inspiration from window-dressings, production sets, and commercial photography, the work simulates these commercial settings through abstract landscapes. The imagined history of the found and crafted objects influence the direction of the work and assigns a personality to the objects themselves.
