On the first Thursday of every month from 4-8 p.m, residents of all nine Bay Area counties are invited to enjoy complimentary general admission and dynamic public programs as part of SFMOMA's free First Thursday program. This summer and fall, the museum will partner with community organizations from across the Bay to present a wide range of new opportunities to create, connect and engage.

First Thursday: Art x Nature
Thursday, Aug 7, 4-8 p.m.
Floor 2, Koret Education Center
Floor 4, Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box
Celebrate community, creativity and collective growth with Garden for the Environment (GFE), San Francisco's public teaching garden. GFE teaches us about the environment--soil, water, plants, creatures and climate--so together we can grow a resilient, more beautiful world. SFMOMA visitors can make themselves comfortable at our communal art table and pick a medium to nurture their imagination. There will also be an opportunity to contribute to a communal art project that will ultimately be installed at Garden for the Environment.
From hands-on compost demos (worms and all!) to "Ask a Gardener" stations with actionable info about our native ecosystems, this program will help museumgoers reap new perspectives on how to support our world and each other.
First Thursday: Weirdo Night
Thursday, Sep 4, 4-8 p.m.
Floor 1, Phyllis Wattis Theater
Floor 2, Koret Education Center
Come join SFMOMA in welcoming San Francisco Art Institute alumni Jibz Cameron and Oliver Hawk Holden to celebrate the new exhibition People Make This Place: SFAI Stories. For one night only, Weirdo Night comes to SFMOMA! Hosted by "crackpot genius" Dynasty Handbag (Cameron), this underground variety show celebrates the absurd, the brilliant and the beautifully unhinged through comedy, music, performance art, drag and whatever else can happen onstage. Expect things to go gloriously off the rails.
Earlier in the evening, reconsider your priorities and lay your dreams to rest and join a hands-on workshop led by Holden, exploring humor, absurdity, and DIY creativity.
First Thursday: SMARTBOMB x SFMOMA
Thursday, Oct 2, 4-8 p.m.
Floor 1, Phyllis Wattis Theater
Floor 2, Koret Education Center, 2:30-4 p.m.
Floor 4, Gina and Stuart Peterson White Box
Join SFMOMA for music and screenprinting with SMARTBOMB, an Oakland-based curatorial project, multimedia and live events platform focused on amplifying the flourishing creative community of the Bay Area and beyond. For this First Thursday, SFMOMA's White Box will be activated with a visual landscape and a selection of performances, and the museum's Wattis Theater will host a screening of new works from Bay Area artists and live performances. Screenprinting will take place in the Koret Education Center from 2:30-4 p.m.
