Apprenticing with Gerald Wilson, Frank Foster, Jimmy Heath and Nancy Wilson, he served as lead trumpeter with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has toured with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Heavily involved in education, Sean has recently joined the Berklee College of Music’s distinguished faculty as the Chair of the Brass Department. He has also taught at Duquesne University and at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Sean is current Artist-in-Residence at SF Performances and is a member of The SF JAZZ Collective. https://www.sean-jones.com/

Sean will be accompanied by piano phenom Hannah Mayer, a junior from Oakland School of the Arts

Hannah Mayer is a junior at Oakland School for the Arts where she studies jazz piano with Dave Ellis and Kev Choice. Outside of school, she studies privately with Peter Horvath and Jeff Chambers. Hannah is currently a member of the MJF Next Gen Women in Jazz combo under the direction of Katie Thiroux and the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars big band under the direction of Paul Contos where she was recently given the opportunity to share the stage with Chucho Valdes at the SFJAZZ gala. Hannah was a 2017 Jazz Search West finalist.

As a part of Minor F Quartet, Hannah has had the honor of playing with Sean Jones through SF Performances and opening for the Pete Escovedo Orchestra seven times through Elevate Oakland. Hannah enjoys composing and recently wrote the music for a 30-minute musical adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s “All Summer in a Day,” performed at Shotgun Players through their “Make A Difference” program.

CMC thanks San Francisco Performances for bringing these world-class artists to our stage for a free community concert.
