Fractures + Resistance

SEE EVENT DETAILS
In a tumultuous political climate, the voices of artists on the margin continue to provide unique perspectives and insight into navigating the distinctly American tensions of race, class, nationality, and identity.
Local artists, curators, and brothers Victor Cartegena and Carlos Cartegena center the voices of Creativity Explored artists Joseph "JD" Green and John Iwaszewicz in this new exhibition to draw upon their unique creative processes to explore, connect, and share their visions of resistance.
"It’s been a learning experience for me following the creative dialogue of Joseph Green and John Iwaszewicz, seeing them work side-by-side.  Their collaboration has shed light on how each one expresses concerns and reflections on life and society," Creativity Explored Teaching Artist and show co-curator Victor Cartegena explains, speaking about the process behind the exhibition. "The result is novel and unexpected and may challenge traditional expectations when it comes to art produced by Creativity Explored artists."
Fractures + Resistance features new paintings, drawings, multimedia sculptures and installations by Green and Iwaszewicz that challenge viewers to elevate and include the voices of artists with developmental disabilities in the critical discussions about America today and into the future.

FREE parking available during the opening reception at Mission Dolores Church (enter on Church Street) from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.Opening Reception - Thursday, September 19, 20197:00 pm to 9:00 pm
