In his project A People Called Elaine, Trent Bozeman presents a sensitive and thoughtful document of members of the Elaine, Arkansas community, which from September 30 - October 1, 1919 was the setting for a little known, but terrible massacre of black inhabitants by white supremacists. Since 2020, Bozeman has been hosting a summer photography camp with children at the Elaine Legacy Center, giving the students the tools and agency to represent themselves. As he continues with this long-term project, Bozeman states, "I am focusing on collaboration with the kids, while also making images that hold a more vocal stance on the inner politics, societal issues, and culture of Elaine."
