After more than 20 years of friendship, artists Kelly Detweiler and Katherine Levin-Lau came to a surprising realization about each other's work.
Levin-Lau, a printmaker, and Detweiler, a collage artist and professor at Santa Clara University, had both, for about four years, been incorporating images of birds into their artwork. But neither of them had any idea that the other was working on similar material.
Levin-Lau says that she and Detweiler made the discovery as they attended the now defunct Art Party a couple of years ago. They saw each other's work and realized their pieces drew on similar inspirations.
And "For the Birds," on view through Nov. 26 at Seeing Things Gallery in downtown San Jose, was born. (Nick Rivelli)
