A singular bridge between the creatively teeming world of Brazilian music and the New York jazz scene, Fleurine is an alluring vocalist, guitarist, composer and lyricist with a soul-deep feel for bossa nova and beyond. Based in New York City for the past three decades, the Dutch-born, Portuguese-raised singer was the first artist authorized to create English translations for the Portuguese lyrics of legendary Brazilian composer Chico Buarque, songs included on her intoxicating 2008 Sunnyside album San Francisco.

Fleurine vocals, guitar
Vitor Gonçalves keyboards, accordion
Ian Faquini guitar
Eduardo Belo bass
Rogerio Boccato percussion

Her fifth and latest album, 2021's Brazilian Dream, was produced by Fleurine and focuses primarily on her original material. In talking about the album's varied subject matter, the singer relates, "I just grabbed everything that was around me. A bunch of family stuff is in there, children, people being far away all the time. But it's not all about me: I grabbed stories of friends, things that people were going through. It was a very organic process."

The album features piano star Brad Mehldau, her husband and frequent collaborator, and her Boys From Brazil combo, and all album proceeds benefit Estrela da Favela, a special school for children in the shantytown of Mangueira in Rio.

For her Bay Area debut she's joined by the album's all-star Brazilian cast, with bassist Eduardo Belo, Berkeley-reared acoustic guitarist Ian Faquini (heard recently at SFJAZZ with duo partner Natalie Cressman), and pianist/accordionist Vitor Gonçalves, who performed last season with Anat Cohen's Tentet and Quartetinho.
