(((folkYEAH!))) presents...
Flamin' Groovies with the Jackson Saints in a special reunion, the all-female Kinks tribute band, The Minks, and DJ Shindog of New Wave City.
Originating in San Francisco in 1965, and reunited for a tour of Australia in 2013, the FLAMIN' GROOVIES have been touring and performing consistently for the last ten years, exceeding all expectations, presenting their own unique and infectious style of rock 'n' roll with such cult classics as "Slow Death," "Teenage Head," and of course, "Shake Some Action."
Their place in history is well established as one of the all-time greatest bands from San Francisco (and the world) and as progenitors of real rock 'n' roll.
In the vibrant post-punk San Francisco music scene of the 80's and 90's, the Jackson Saints were a standout band known for their fast and loud 'rock and roll sound, which can best be described as a fusion of The Stooges, MC5, and Led Zeppelin. The band played to packed rooms at legendary San Francisco venues like the I-Beam, Nightbreak, Kennel Club, Chatterbox, Paradise Lounge, and Covered Wagon, among others. Reuniting for one night only, the Jackson Saints will bring the added punch of Brad Brooks substituting on vocals after a two year stint as lead vocalist in the reunited MC5.
The Minks are a dynamic all-female tribute band dedicated to capturing the spirit of one of the most influential and beloved British bands. Based in San Francisco and Los Angeles, these ladies infuse their energy and style into The Kinks' timeless hits spanning the 60s to the 80s. Since their formation in 2009, The Minks have become a fixture on the Bay Area music scene and beyond.
DJ Shindog is the alter ego of Steve Indig, best known as co-founder, producer, promoter, and DJ, for New Wave City, the alternative 80s dance party in San Francisco since 1992. He also presented the 90s alternative party Ballroom Blitz; spun disco at the former Covered Wagon; presented the oldies party Retro Reverb, produced the annual Elvis Presley / David Bowie Birthday Bash, and the (mostly) annual live music Elvis Presley Tribute concerts.
