Juan del Gastor, in the Bay Area from Spain for a 2-week residency, will share stories of his uncle Diego del Gastor and the fabled flamenco scene in Moron de la Frontera in the 1960s. A celebrated guitarist in his own right, Juan will use video clips and live guitar to illustrate the signature Moron style and his uncle's musical legacy. The evening will also feature a rare screening of the underground documentary "Flamencologia"(1971, Danny Seymour) with footage of Diego del Gastor and other flamenco artists, shot in late 1960s Morón.
ABOUT DIEGO DEL GASTOR
Diego del Gastor (1908–1973) was one of the most influential flamenco guitarists of the 20th century and to this day his music continues to inspire flamenco artists and aficionados all over the world. He created a highly unique personal style of guitar playing characterized by strong rhythm and accents, understatement, savored notes, a subtle sense of humor and an emphasis on improvisation and the expression of genuine emotion.
