Funtime Dan's Man-Made Mythos
Opening Reception - November 9th 7-10pm
Showing Through - December 21st

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - First Amendment Gallery is pleased to announce Funtime Dan's Man-Made Mythos, a new solo exhibition of ceramic works by Bay Area artist, Daniel Velasquez AKA Funtime Dan.

Calling upon an artform that has stood the test of time alongside graffiti, an artform that is hardly ever permanent, Funtime Dan aims to challenge your perception of craft with an audacious body of ceramic works for "Man-Made Mythos." The functional vessels in "Man-Made Mythos" were created to model Greek Amphoras- cultural vases used in ancient ceremonies and often decorated in a narrative fashion- but executed with a contemporary twist. Hand-embellished in a variety of graffiti hand-styles and familiar figures, Funtime Dan's ceramic works are a mirror into contemporary society: the fleeting moments, the judgement, the grandeur, the humanity that connects and divides us are just a few of the comical elements highlighted in each porcelain vase. Equally thought-provoking as it is laughter-inducing, Funtime Dan's Man-Made Mythos represents the raw, unfiltered voice of contemporary generations now immortalized in the dust that brought us here.

Daniel Velasquez AKA Funtime Dan is an artist and designer based in San Francisco, California. Using humor, sarcasm, symbolism, and word play, Funtime Dan's work generally pokes fun at modern themes, promoting light-hearted morals and universal humility.

First Amendment Gallery invites you to join us for a conversation with Funtime Dan on Saturday November 9th from 5-6pm with the opening reception of "Man-Made Mythos" to follow from 7-10pm at 1000 Howard St. San Francisco. For further inquiries on the artist or available works, please contact [email protected].
