December 6th marks the 57th anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The coastal plain of the refuge is the sacred land for the Arctic indigenous Gwich'in nation and also the birthing and nursing ground for the migratory birds, polar bears, caribou and countless other species who depend on it. The Arctic Refuge is facing its largest threat ever through the Budget Reconciliation Bill which is moving forward in the Senate with provisions to drill the Arctic Refuge.
Join Miho Aida, filmmaker of The Sacred Place Where Life Begins- Gwich’in Women Speak, on this anniversary to stand up with the Gwich'in nation and many others across the country to learn more and find out what you as an individual can do to protect the Arctic.
Light refreshments and food will be provided. Free parking is available in the East Beach Parking Lot.
This event is a part of the PYC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion series.
