Do you enjoy German Films and want to learn more about Germany? The Goethe-Institut San Francisco is happy to present selected German films ranging from small, independent productions to box office hits. All screenings are in German with English subtitles. The screening of the comedy "Offline" marks a special occasion to come to the Goethe-Institut San Francisco, as it is part of GAMES AND POLITICS, an event series on the various interactions between videogames and politics.
Plot:
17 year-old Jan passes most of his time being somebody else and habitually seeks refuge in the fairy virtual world. Far away from being shy, Jan’s alter ego Fenris, a brave and venturous warrior, conquers numerous challenges in an online role play. Whereas Jan seems to be the unimpressive underdog in real life, he is one of the top players in the Battle of Utgard fantasy game. Unfortunately when Jan is busy preparing for an upcoming online tournament, he suddenly gets expelled from the game. Jan frantically realizes he's been hacked by another player, dark sorcerer Loki. This marks the start of the biggest quest of his life – offline, in the real world! On his journey, things are getting serious and Jan has to solve analogue problems and overcome real, not digital enemies. But he doesn’t have to struggle alone: On his way, he encounters honest-to-goodness girl Karo, who joins Jan in defeating their common enemy Loki once and for all: During this mission, reality is both rival and strongest ally at the same time…
