THE SENSUAL NATURE OF SOUND
(1993 60 minutes Michael Blackwood)
A portrait of four contemporary musical pioneers - each with a distinctive voice and direction. With her investigations of deep listening, Pauline Oliveros expands music's potentials; Meredith Monk explores the parameters of music performance and opera; Tania Leon weaves Afro-Cuban and Latin jazz elements into the European concerto form; and Laurie Anderson uses her voice and violin to create unique performance art.

THE REACH OF RESONANCE
(2010 118 minutes Steve Elkins)
Filmed in ten countries, Steve Elkins' film juxtaposes the creative paths of four very unique musical artists. Australian Jon Rose uses violin bows to turn fences into wailing musical instruments; in Alaska, John Luther Adams translates geophysical phenomena into music. Miya Masaoka uses music to interact with plants and insects; while Bob Ostertag uses sound to explore global socio-political issues. Featuring San Francisco's own Kronos Quartet.
