Figaro's Wedding, or the Count Curtailed

SEE EVENT DETAILS
March 31, April 1 & 2 at 7.30pm; April 3 at 2.30pm

Who doesn't love the Marriage of Figaro? Well, maybe any first time opera goer, wary of sitting through three and half hours of music, no matter how glorious that music is! Enter Figaro's Wedding, or the Count Curtailed - curtailed because it is half the length of its original work and the count still gets his comeuppance. After the bubbly, well-loved overture, at the centerpiece of each of our parts one and two is a finale - the much praised act two which builds voice by voice until the original duet becomes a septet, with each singer embroiled in the drama; and act four, where after several plot twists, the count is foiled and the peace restored. These finales are preceded by recitatives, arias and ensembles sung in Italian and woven together by English narration written by Wendy Hillhouse that encapsulates the plot of that crazy day. It is the perfect opera outreach to an audience of all ages.

Guest artist: Eugene Brancoveanu as Count Almaviva

$28, seniors $23, students $18.

Presented by Department of Music, Stanford University.
