Kit Eakle, jazz violinist and historian presents a concert of his take on music from jazz violinists throughout the history of jazz. The music will demonstrate the enormous contribution violinists have made to the development and artistry of jazz. Included will be compositions by, and associated with, Will Marion Cook, Eddie South, Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti, Svend Asmussen, Ray Nance, John Blake Jr., Jean Luc Ponty, The Turtle Island Quartet, Regina Carter, Zach Brock and more!
Eakle will be joined by Bay Area luminaries, John R. Burr, piano; Ruth Davies, bass; and Kendrick Freeman, percussion in this wide ranging tribute to the role of the violin in jazz.
Kit Eakle is an internationally known violinist, who is based half time in the San Francisco Bay Area and Vancouver, British Columbia. He also teaches a course on the History of Jazz Violin at both UC Berkeley and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. He has played with numerous Bay Area blues, rock and jazz legends like Sonny Terry and Browie McGee, Howard Alden, Dan Hicks, Lynton Garner, Michael Dunn and Elmer Gill.
