SEE EVENT DETAILS
Artist reception September 27, 7-9pm, exhibition September 28 through October 27

Harrington Gallery at the Firehouse Arts Center in Pleasanton announces its next major juried installation: "Fibre Theatricks" features professional fibre artists from SAQA, the international Studio Art Quilt Associates. The exhibit is open to the public from September 28 through October 27.

The focus of this third SAQA exhibition at the Harrington is "theater," themed around the opening of the Firehouse Arts Center's new season. Gallery director Julie Finegan notes: "... we will have several masks, sculptures, and wall hangings, many of which in some way reflect the excitement and drama of performing arts."

The external juror for "Fibre Theatricks" is Velda Newman, a Northern California quilter who is nationally known and respected. One of her large floral quilts, "Hydrangea," was recognized as one of the 100 best quilts of the 20th century. Newman conducts workshops, lectures, and creates massive museum-size floral pieces. In conjunction with the exhibit, the Harrington Gallery will feature one of her large-scale works which spans 21 feet.

Items of special interest: Susan Else, a Santa Cruz artist who has shown numerous times at the Harrington Gallery, will be presenting a large kinetic sculpture. Adriane Dedic will be showing a Kabuki Warrior, and Oakland artist Alice Beasley's submissions feature joyful dancing.

RECEPTION: Opening reception with the artists will be held on Thursday, September 27, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Harrington Gallery. Light refreshments will be served. Guests are welcome to come explore the exhibit, and ask questions and chat with the juror and SAQA member artists. A $5 donation is suggested.

YOUTH CLASS: Thursday, October 18, 4:30 p.m. For children ages 5-11. With the theme of "theater," students will tour the exhibit, explore techniques, and build their own stage set dioramas. To register visit https://www.pleasantonfun.com class code 6942.
