The Marsh Festival of New Musical Voices 2021 is the culmination of a nineteen-month Marsh Performance Initiative. Launched on March 5, 2020, just before the COVID shuttering. The Marsh commissioned four artists to create new full-length musicals and a musical film. The workshop was in-person for one meeting before the shuttering and then transferred to MarshStream to a virtual workshop that has been meeting ever since. David Ford, the leading director of solo/new theater in the Bay Area, led the workshop, supporting the development of the new musicals. The Performance Initiative was conceived and designed by Stephanie Weisman, The Marsh's founder and artistic director and produced by Brian Williamson, The Marsh General Manager. This is the fourth Marsh Performance Initiative; each culminating in a festival.
